About me

My interest in photography stems all the way back to my early teenage years when my parents brought me an Agfa 100 camera. We are talking the days of the old 126 cartridge films.

I remember excitedly waiting for my photos to be returned through the post from Truprint to see the results of my efforts. Simple camera though it may have been, that was really the genesis of my interest in photography. Once I left school and was earning my own money I saved up for my first real camera, an Olympus OM1. I loved its compactness and build quality. The viewfinder information was simple back then, the only exposure guidance it had being a needle on a plus and minus scale, but that was all you needed to get the correct exposure. No auto this and auto that, just the bare minimum. Full manual control. I was hoping to make a career in photography back then, but alas things did not go to plan and I ended up going in a different direction, so the photography went into a hiatus period for a few years. Then back in 2012 I came across the Fujifilm X100 and fell in love with its retro design and build quality. I loved its simplicity. It’s a camera that just begs you to pick it up and take photos. It reignited my interest in photography. This camera has a fixed focal length so you have to think about your image before you take it, you have to see things at that focal length. You want to get closer, you use your legs. This was my sole camera for three years. Great for travel as it is small and relatively compact, it was a very positive introduction to the Fujifilm camera system, so when the XPro2 became available I decided to take the plunge into the X system giving me access to the superb Fujifilm lenses. I prefer the rangefinder style of this camera as I just feel more involved with my subject. It just feels and handles like my cameras of old. You feel very much in the driving seat and in control. As minimal as you can get without going to the expense of a Leica. As I am not into sports or action photography, these cameras really are my perfect muse. Hopefully you will enjoy some of my images here.
